Thomas Partey’s Mistake Against Aston Villa is Unforgivable – Ian Wright
Arsenal legend, Ian Wright, has slammed Thomas Partey’s costly mistake against Aston Villa, describing it as “unforgivable”. The 30-year-old Ghana international was deployed as a right-back in the game against Unai Emery’s side, but failed to track Ollie Watkins, allowing the English striker to score and secure a 2-2 draw for Villa at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Reacting to the mistake, Wright said, “He [Thomas Partey] is not a right-back, and that’s understandable, but as a professional player, he should have sensed that danger and not moved away.” He added, “He should have stuck with him and closed Watkins down, but he failed. At that level, making such mistakes is unforgivable, and he cost Arsenal a win.”
Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz had put the Gunners in front, but Villa pulled a goal back through Youri Tielemans before Watkins scored to secure the draw.
Arsenal will hope to return to winning ways when they host Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League before traveling to play Wolves.
