MASON GREENWOOD DITCHES ENGLAND FOR JAMAICA

Spread the love

Mason Greenwood, the Marseille striker, has switched his international allegiance from England to Jamaica. The decision follows the Football Association’s stance that he would not be considered for future England selection due to past charges, despite them being dropped.

Greenwood, 23, qualifies for Jamaica through his father and is eligible to switch allegiances, having won only one England cap under 21. He has completed the necessary paperwork and is now available for Steve McClaren’s Jamaican team.

The former Manchester United player’s decision to switch allegiance marks a new chapter in his career. Greenwood moved to Marseille from United last summer in a £27m deal and has since become the leading scorer in Ligue 1 this season with 12 goals.

Greenwood’s switch to Jamaica may also provide him with a fresh start, away from the controversy surrounding his past. Once touted as the heir apparent to England’s current No. 9 Harry Kane, Greenwood was deemed too risky a choice for the Three Lions by FA chiefs due to potential negative publicity.
